Made from a discarded street lamp bulb and recycled lumber (for base). The bulb is over 8 inches (20 cm) long; so this is a fairly big piece. Click image to enlarge.
You are a Freakin' Genius!!!!! Talk about a light bulb moment!!! I love Mr. Shackleton! It's absolutely wonderful!!! Doodlestreet is right dude! YOU ROCK! Great Job Bro
You can never go wrong with a penguin sportin' a monocle. I say, Eric, he is a dapper fellow! Wonderful, respectable, recycled (awesome) piece of art that is sure to grace one's home. Awesome!
Holy mackerel - I'm blown away! Just incredible :) Is the white coat just paint or is it some other kinda medium? Looks like you've smoothed out the ribbed base of the bulb?
Thanks so much everyone! Bee, I used an all-surface spray primer to coat the bulb and the base, and then followed that up with a light coat of gesso to give it some tooth. The metal stem is hidden by the iceberg base.
Oh oh oh... wonderful Erik! I love Mr. Shackleton to begin with, but this brings him to a whole new level. The piece of ice he is standing on, I want to pick it up and eat it. It looks so refreshing. haha - I hope we see more of these sculptures. So much fun! :D
Are you for REAL? Oh my GOSH, this is beyond awesome! The city officials here don't know it yet, but SOMEbody is going to be climbing a lot of street lamps soon and sending you more bulbs!
Ahh! You've discovered Monsieur's little world..thanks Eric! Glad you've come along for the ride. I hope to post more of his adventures soon. Take good care and thanks!
Wow! That is so cool Eric! You are full of surprises! Your creativity goes waaaay beyond the confines of pencil, paper and computer screen. I'm sure Mr. Shackleton is a great dancer. He's "light" on his feet!
The bulb was fried when I got it, so I took all the 'guts' out of it. It's a street lamp bulb, so that thing could've really lit up a room! Felt kind of like a myth buster taking that thing apart...
SUPERB BIRD! what more can I say. It's almost a shame the bulb gets covered up, I like knowing that's underneath, somehow seems to add to his charm and mystery. I loved Mr S in his chaffeured car, really great to see he's back!
Hi Eric, I love your blog, your pictures are beautiful and this penguin has finally convinced me ah ah ah I have become a follower and they will link to my blog! greetings
